Job Description

This position exists to provide excellent speech therapy services. The purpose of this position is to implement therapy programs for patients referred to Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital as well as providing health and wellness education to the Gallatin Valley.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

Required:

Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology

Preferred:

LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION

Required:

License with State of Montana Department of Labor and Industry by date of hire.
BLS Certification through the American Heart Association as a Healthcare Provider

Preferred:

Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Language Pathology.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Preferred:

2 years hospital and /or pediatric experience.

KNOWLEDGE OF, SKILLS IN, ABILITY TO, COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULY:

Advanced oral and written communication skills
Basic computer knowledge
Compliance rules and regulations
Accurate, timely, legible and objective patient documentation

ABILITY TO:

Refer to policy manual for specific instructions/guidelines.
Follow established policies and Procedures.
Adhere to the standards of the job description and overall philosophy of Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
Maintain flexibility to adapt to a variety of workload assignments
Keep Rehab Manager apprised of situations directly affecting the physical rehabilitation operation
Physically and mentally capable of performing all duties of the position

COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULTY:

Work independently with a minimum of Supervision
Advanced critical thinking skills to appropriately advance treatments and to refer to physicians when appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ADULT SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST:

40% Time Spent -
Dysphagia evaluation and treatment (may include Videofluoroscopic swallow studies, FEES)

20% Time Spent -
Language assessments

10% Time Spent -
Cognitive assessments

10% Time Spent -
Speech production assessments

10% Time Spent -
Speech, Language, Cognitive-Linguistic treatment

10% Time Spent -
Phonatory evaluation and treatment (may include videostroboscopy)

Other Duties - Stroke Competency (if employee works acute care setting)
Complies with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines related to care for patients with hyperacute and acute stroke.
Participates in two hours of initial cerebrovascular disease (stroke) education by November 1, 2018, or within one year of hire.
Participates in one hour annually of cerebrovascular disease (stroke) education.

PEDIATRIC SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST -

Experience and skill in Essential Functions listed below:

20% Time Spent -
Early Intervention assessment and treatment

20% Time Spent -
Pediatric language assessment and treatment

20% Time Spent -
Pediatric articulation, language, oral motor and pragmatic experience and skill

20% Time Spent -
Feeding and Swallowing - infant and pediatric

20% Time Spent -
Team Planning: including other professionals and parents

Other Duties - Stroke Competency (if employee works acute care setting):
