Job Description

MRI/CT/X-ray Technologists:

Provide delivery of high quality MRI, CT, and X-Ray exams to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs independently MRI, CT, and X-Ray procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Operates with limited supervision while maintaining high attention to detail, customer needs, and high reliability. Aids medical staff with additional procedures to include splinting/reductions, IV starts with or without US guidance, and immobilizing/mobilizing trauma patients. Trains new staff in proper radiology department protocols and customer service. Involved in scanning protocol development for continued quality and safety.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

Required:

Graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited Radiology program or equivalent, and at least 3 months training in both CT and MRI.

Preferred:

Associates or Bachelor of Science in health care related studies.

LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION

Required:

Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and 3 month on the job CT/MRI training or equivalent experience.
Montana State License by date of hire

Preferred:

CT and/or MRI ARRT certification

EXPERIENCE

Required:

2 years of radiology experience in accredited school, at least 1 year experience working in CT, and 1 year experience working in MRI.

Preferred:

2-years post graduate experience in both CT and MRI. Experience with trauma cross sectional imaging, and cross sectional stroke imaging. Experience with US guidance for procedures and IV placement.

KNOWLEDGE OF, SKILLS IN, ABILITY TO, COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULY:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Computers, for access and use of Hospital and Radiology information systems, and proper use of Picture Archiving and Communication system
Perform CT/MRI procedures in accordance with department standards.
Radiation safety standards and principals.
Safe use of contrast media and use of power injectors and related software specific to timing bolus and timed injections.
Proper IV placement, size selection, and proper injection rate; with or without the use of Ultrasound guidance. Proficiency in use of US as a guidance tool for procedures.

SKILLS IN:

Advanced oral and written communication skills.
Positive interpersonal relationships in dealing with coworkers, supervisors, and physicians.
Safely screening patients for CT and/or MRI exams or procedures using established scripts to provide information and minimize anxiety.
Evaluating images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.
Customer Service excellence and training of new staff in development of quality customer interactions.

ABILITY TO:

Refer to policy manual for specific instructions/guidelines. Follow established policies and procedures.

Maintain flexibility to adapt to a variety of workload assignments.
Ability to work long hours, and call in stressful situations.

COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULTY:

Work independently with a minimum of supervision.

Train new staff on the fundamentals and principles of MRI and CT. Assists and develops technical and professional abilities.
Demonstrates proficiency in x-ray, CT, and MRI equipment, techniques, and procedures on various vendor platforms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

70% Time Spent -
Performs quality MRI, CT, and X-Ray/fluoroscopic exams and procedures as requested by medical staff. Operate independently, with limited supervision, while maintaining high attention to detail, customer needs, and high reliability.

10% Time Spent -
Assists medical staff in other departments during exams and procedures. Including splinting/reductions, IV starts, and immobilizing/mobilizing trauma patients.

5% Time Spent -
Train new radiology staff in department protocols, safety procedures, and customer service.

10% Time Spent -
Performs ancillary duties as required to maintain proper distribution, billing, and archival of exams and procedures. Completes documentation, in designated area, of all information required for proper interpretation, reporting, archiving, and retrieval of exams.
Retrieves written orders, and related health information to insure the timely performance and reporting of MRI exams and procedures
Participates in the implementation, monitoring, and improvement of the hospital quality indicators as described in the strategic plan.

5% Time Spent-
Develops and amends department protocols and scanning parameters for safe and quality delivery in CT and MRI. Adheres to strict safety guidelines regarding proper MRI screening, follows Image Gently and Image Wisely practices, trains ancillary staff on dangers of Magnetic environment.
